TAILWIND ROOFINGROOFING

DaVinci synthetic slate, without the weight of stone.

DaVinci molds polymer tiles that read like quarried slate or split cedar from the street, and every line carries a Class 4 impact rating with a 50-year limited warranty. The tiles weigh about a third of what real slate does, so they go on standard framing.

The short answer

How does DaVinci hold up to Omaha hail?

Well. Every DaVinci line carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest rating the test gives, because the polymer flexes under a hail strike where natural slate would crack. That rating can earn an insurance premium discount of 10-30% depending on your carrier, so ask your agent before you decide. The tiles are made from 100% virgin polymer resins with UV stabilizers, which is what keeps the color stable through freeze-thaw cycles and summer sun. If you want the look of slate or shake and you live where hail is a spring routine, this is the category built for it.

The lineup

Four DaVinci lines, two looks

Every line shares the Class 4 impact rating, the Class A fire rating, and the 50-year limited warranty. The choice is about the look you want and how the layout goes together.

The material

Polymer that behaves better than stone.

DaVinci tiles are molded from 100% virgin polymer resins with fire retardant and UV stabilizers built into the blend. The molds are taken from real slate and real cedar, which is where the color variation, surface texture, and shadow depth come from. The polymer flexes when hail hits it instead of cracking the way stone does, and it holds its color through the freeze-thaw swings that fade and degrade natural materials over time.

The weight

One-third the weight, no reinforcement.

Real slate is heavy enough that most homes need structural reinforcement before it can go on, and that cost lands before a single tile does. DaVinci weighs about a third as much, so it installs on the framing your house already has. It also tolerates foot traffic during service work, which real slate does not, so a plumber flashing a vent years from now is not a risk to the roof. If you are pricing a full roof replacement, that framing math is a real part of the comparison.

The install

A roof this good deserves a careful schedule.

DaVinci installs in 3 to 5 days on most homes, and it wants moderate weather. Cold tiles get rigid and cut poorly, so we schedule this product for the windows when the temperature cooperates, which protects both the workmanship and the warranty. Underlayment gets picked for your pitch and your ice dam exposure, and Multi-Width Slate gets extra layout time so the random pattern lands right. Slower and right is the trade this material asks for, and it pays you back for 50 years.

Questions

Common questions about DaVinci roofing

How does DaVinci compare to natural slate?

DaVinci tiles give you the look of slate at about one-third of the weight, so they install on standard roof framing without structural reinforcement. Natural slate cracks under hail and under foot traffic, which makes repairs on it slow and expensive. DaVinci tiles carry a Class 4 impact rating, tolerate being walked on during service work, and are covered by a 50-year limited warranty.

Do DaVinci roofs qualify for insurance discounts in Nebraska?

Many carriers offer a premium discount for a UL 2218 Class 4 roof, and the range runs 10-30% depending on the carrier. Every DaVinci line carries the Class 4 rating. The discount is not automatic, so call your agent and ask what your policy offers, and we document the installed product so you have what you need to request it.

Can DaVinci tiles be installed in an Omaha winter?

Installation needs above-freezing temperatures, because cold tiles get rigid and are harder to cut cleanly, and the adhesives need warmth to perform. We schedule DaVinci work in moderate weather windows so the installation meets the manufacturer requirements and the warranty stays intact.

How long does a DaVinci roof installation take?

Plan on 3 to 5 days for most homes, depending on roof size and complexity. Multi-Width Slate takes the longest because the random layout has to be built course by course. Rooflines with valleys, hips, and dormers add time no matter which line you pick, and weather can shift the schedule.

What does the DaVinci 50-year warranty cover?

The limited warranty covers material defects, color fade, and freeze-thaw performance for 50 years, and it transfers to a new owner if you sell the house. It covers the material rather than storm damage or normal wear, so installation quality is what protects the rest, which is why the details matter on a roof like this.
